Anton Kushaev

Anton Kushaev is an artist. His paintings focus on the problems of revising semantic systems from the history of art, the circulation of analogue images in the digital era, and experiences of demythologization of the “spiritual” in art. 

Born in Moscow in 1983, he graduated from Kalinin Moscow Art College of Applied Arts and the Icon Painting School at the Moscow Theological Academy. He also studied at Baza Institute of Contemporary Art (Moscow).

He has had solo exhibitions at Tsentr Krasny (Moscow, 2016, 2017), Start Platform at Winzavod Center for Contemporary Art (Questionable Basis, Moscow, 2017), Elektrozavod Gallery (Without Support, Moscow, 2017), and Szena Gallery (You, Only After, Moscow, 2019). Group exhibitions include: Raw / Boiled (Moscow Museum of Modern Art, 2016), Reliquary (Shchusev State Museum of Architecture, Moscow, 2017), Where No One Dreams (Moscow Museum of Modern Art, 2017), Victory over the White (Winzavod Center for Contemporary Art, Moscow, 2018), Strange, Lost, Unseen, Useless (Winzavod Center for Contemporary Art, Moscow, 2018), Histories of the Present (Voronezh Centre for Contemporary Arts, 2018), Rub the Bronze Dog’s Nose (Moscow Museum of Modern Art, 2019), and Faith in Deep Crisis (Viktoria Gallery, Samara, 2019). He was a Garage Studios resident in 2019.

He lives and works in Moscow.
