Victor Agamov-Typitsyn

b. 1945

Victor Agamov-Tupitsyn is a philosopher, critic and cultural theorist based between Paris and New York City. He graduated in Mathematics from Lomonosov Moscow State University in 1965 and got his PhD from the State University of New York at Stony Brook in 1976. In 1975 he moved to the USA following his involvement in the underground Bulldozer Exhibition (1974) broken up by the Soviet authorities. He is currently an Emeritus Professor at Pace University in Westchester, USA. In 1989, he edited the Russian edition of the journal Flash Art and in 2002 the collection of theoretical and philosophical writings Post-Soviet Russia published by Third Text. He has contributed to a selection of international periodicals, including Artforum, Art in America, Flash Art International, Parkett, Texte zur Kunst, Third Text), Cabinet, Mesto Pechati, Logos and Moscow Art Magazine. He is the author of 24 books on contemporary art and philosophy.
