Doris Humphrey

Doris Humphrey

1895–1958

Doris Humphrey was an American dancer, teacher, and choreographer. Along with Martha Graham, Humphrey belonged to the second generation of modern dance pioneers. In developing her technique and teaching methods, she followed her forerunners Isadora Duncan, Ruth St. Denis and Ted Shawn but also explored the potential of abstraction.
