In the pages of this book are works of art that now remain only in photographs. They were destroyed by the war, and in this sense the book is a solemn requiem. But it is also a hymn, because it tells about the greatest feat of our people, who crushed the evil machine of fascism, raised villages and towns from the ashes and ruins, restored and recreated the monuments of centuries-old history of our homeland and works of culture and art. It is also a stern warning, an appeal to present and future generations, a call to protect, defend and preserve everything created by human genius.
