This book, part of the series on the Budapest Museum of Fine Arts, presents a selection from the youngest department of the Museum: the collection of twentieth-century art, in the formation of which both authors played an important role.

Denes Pataki was head of the Department of Modern Art Abroad. After his death, his work both at the Museum and in writing this book was continued by Christina Paszschut. In the introductory part, the authors introduce the history of the department, tell about the selfless help provided by collectors and artists themselves, and do not omit the difficulties encountered in creating a collection that represents the art of our time.

The reproductions include many works by world-renowned masters: Picasso, Kokoschka, Schiele, Chagall, Schwitters, Le Corbusier, Guttuso, Beoti and others.
