  • About the Book

Irina Piviovarova (1939–1986) — a poet and an artist, author of children’s books “What My Head is Thinking”, “Lost Bird in the Sky” among others, known to those born in (but not limited to) Soviet Union. Illustrating many of her works for children was her husband, Viktor Pivovarov. But the novel “Round Window” — first published in 1990s with limited circulation and thus making it an instant rarity — is not for children. “Round Window” works like a time machine, transporting the reader in times of samizdat, artistic salons and nonconformist art, dynamically developing against the socio-political stagnation in the Soviet Union. The current edition is accompanied by the artist’s own graphic works and never-before-seen archival photos.
