
Judith Butler

Judith Butler is an American philosopher and gender theory pioneer, who has made significant contributions to political philosophy, ethics, feminism, and queer theory. She has been a lecturer at University of California, Berkeley, since 1993 and has written extensively on gender issues, challenging conventional notions of gender and developing her theory of gender performativity. Her best known books include Gender Trouble: Feminism and the Subversion of Identity (1990) and Bodies That Matter: On the Discursive Limits of Sex (1993).
