                                            Dean MacCannell is an American anthropologist, professor of the Department of Environmental Design and Landscape Architecture at the University of California, Davis. His academic interests include landscape architecture, semiotics, and social policy. He is the author of The Time of the Sign (1982), Democracy's Turn: On Homeless Noir (1993), Landscaping the Unconscious (1999), The Ethics of Sightseeing (2011).
