
Brassaï
1899–1984
Brassaï (pseudonym; real name Gyula Halász) was a French photographer of Austro-Hungarian origins, an artist, journalist, and writer. Enthused initially by painting, he trained as an artist, but later moved to Paris where he became a journalist, working for the press. Fame came to Brassaï on the release of his photo-album Paris de nuit (1933). He enjoyed the acquaintance of many prominent personalities of his day.
