Bertolt Brecht

Bertolt Brecht

1898–1956

Bertolt Brecht was a German writer, director, and playwright known for his works of philosophical and political satire, such as the plays “The Threepenny Opera” (prod. 1928) and “Mother Courage and Her Children” (written 1939, published 1941). He outlined the main principles of the “epic theatre,” a genre aimed at appealing to the rational mind and critical analysis as opposed to more traditional theatrical notions of identification.
