Sergei Eisenstein is a major figure in the history of Russia film and theater, a director, screen writer, art theorist, and teacher. The films Battleship Potemkin (1925), Alexander Nevsky (1938), and Ivan the Terrible (1944–1945) brought him worldwide acclaim. He wrote numerous articles and books on film theory, including Montage (Moscow, Eisenstein Center/Film Museum, 2000); Method (Moscow, Eisenstein Center/Film Museum, 2002); and Non-Indifferent Nature (Moscow, Eisenstein Center/Film Museum, 2004–2006).
